The Arizona and Florida Complex League Official Scorer is an on-site role that scores Complex League games based on Rule 9 of the Official Baseball Rules and relays all play-by-play via Slack for live boxscores and record keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at the ballpark no later than 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start Ɵme.
  • Collect rosters and other applicable information
  • Keep a detailed scorecard of the game, focusing on every play.
  • Make all necessary scoring and pitching decisions (win, loss, save).
  • Coordinate with the MLB Data Operations via Slack, alerting them of all play-by-play.
  • Participate with in-season training when necessary and reasonably required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Exceptional (and demonstrable) knowledge of the Official Baseball Rules, and especially Section 9 of OBR.
  • Ability to clearly communicate information via Slack, and to effectively clarify Official Scoring Rules and scoring decisions, when necessary.
  • Demonstrate good judgment on applicable plays requiring decisions.
  • Attention to detail in keeping a scorecard and tracking game totals for each player and team.
  • Demeanor to accept constructive criticism and instruction, and patience to deal with critique of performance from various parties (i.e. clubs, players).
  • Collaborative spirit with colleagues at MLB.
  • Previous Official Scoring experience in professional or amateur baseball is strongly preferred but not required.

Pay Rate: $22.50 per hour
