Smoobu’s all-in-one SaaS solution for private hosts currently manages over 70,000 properties across more than 120 countries. As a Senior Software Engineer (PHP) & Team Lead, you will play a key role in enabling product-focused teams by leading the development of scalable, serviceable backend interfaces. You'll drive architectural improvements, enforce clean coding standards and SOLID principles, and guide the decoupling of monolithic components into modular services. Alongside your technical leadership, you'll mentor your team, support their growth, and foster a focused, collaborative environment where individuals can thrive and take ownership of impactful work.
In this role, you will
Lead a small cross-functional team of backend engineers with a focus on growth, collaboration, and deliveryDrive and enforce technical best practices (SOLID, TDD, clean code, code review standards)Collaborate with product stakeholders to break down features and define milestonesTake ownership of core components—refactor, improve performance, and scale architectureShape and implement the AWS migration strategy and help stabilize the new infrastructureChampion technical alignment between NFQ and Smoobu while mentoring less experienced engineersMonitor the health of critical features, set KPIs, and respond to production risks proactivelyImprove team productivity and technical consistency through guidance, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing ritualsWhat you will bring
Proven experience as a Backend Engineer with team leadership responsibilitiesDeep knowledge of PHP, Symfony framework and AWS platformStrong command of MySQL, query optimization, and data modelingHands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and production observabilityExperience in decomposing monolithic applications and building modular architecturesKnowledge of Clean Code, SOLID, TDD, and testing at multiple layersExcellent communication skills and the ability to work across distributed teamsProfessional working proficiency in EnglishExpertise in Test-Driven Development (TDD), Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and scalable design patterns that promote reliability and maintainabilityExperience as a proactive mentor and team leader, thriving in fast-paced, high-growth environments with a high degree of ambiguityExperience in SaaS companies and/or a travel tech space (a strong plus)What we offer
