About the opportunity

Are you ready for your next career step? N26 is looking for a Model Risk Manager to further develop the model risk and validation function as part of the risk controlling at a cutting-edge technology-driven bank. In this role you will establish model risk management tools and challenge the end-to-end model development lifecycle of our models, taking into account latest regulations and market best practices. You will take a key role in assessing, controlling and reporting N26’s model risks.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a key contributor to further developing N26 model risk management in order to accommodate N26’s growth and risk leadership aspirations
  • Develop and optimize our model risk framework, validation concepts and methods and thus support the (further) improvement of our models, embedding strong model risk management practices into the entire model lifecycle.
  • Independently perform validations of N26’s risk (Pillar I+II) and AFC models by applying quantitative and qualitative analyses to challenge our models and align the results with the responsible units. You will be working closely with our colleagues from data science, credit risk, as well as our risk controlling team, providing them with recommendations across the entire model lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory/internal requirements and identify improvement potentials
  • Be the main contact for all model risk and validation related topics for internal departments as well as internal and external auditors

 

What you need to be successful:

Background:

  • Quantitative academic background: Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, business/economics or similar with a quantitative focus
  • Deep experience with models: 5+ years of professional experience in the validation and/or development of models in any of the following areas: Credit Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, Financial Crime, Finance & Treasury (strong candidates with 3+ years of experience encouraged to apply as well) with a broad interest across all mentioned areas.
  • Subject matter expertise in risk and/or Financial crime: In addition to your technical experience with models you also bring the business background to the table needed to challenge modeler’s decisions in various areas. Familiarity with relevant regulations (MaRisk, IFRS 9, EBA Guidelines)  is considered a strong plus.
  • Experience in model risk management: Previous experience  with model risk management frameworks, including model inventory, model risk ratings and validations, as well as regulations  relating to model risk management (MaRisk, EU AI act, SS1/23, SR 11-7, GDPR) are a strong plus.

Skills:

  • Advanced methodological proficiency: Exceptional analytical skills and a strong foundation in statistical and Machine Learning methods, enhanced by advanced programming capabilities. A deep understanding of the entire model lifecycle, including statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, and data (quality) analysis techniques is essential. Good understanding of model evaluation metrics in various areas, covering both qualitative and quantitative validation aspects.
  • Technical expertise: Hands-on experience with Python and SQL
  • Excellent communication skills both on technical and on managerial level
  • Track record in project delivery
  • An entrepreneurial vision, an autonomous attitude, and a ‘get things done’ approach
  • Hands-on approach and eagerness to tackle new topics while demonstrating a quick grasp in conceptual project work and strategic thinking
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
