Serving as a link among key functions, the Medical Writing Manager will lead the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, reports, clinical protocols, and other documents in support of product development and marketing. They will Develop scientific communication strategy and manage project timelines. Depending on the individual, they may also be directly involved as a team leader in preparing clinical data for analysis and report writing.

What You'll Work On

  • Hires, mentors, and develops members of the medical writing team. Motivates and builds a cohesive team.
  • Participates in or supervises the preparation of reports and manuscripts from data gathered through clinical trials for submission to regulatory authorities for product approval or to peer-reviewed journals for publication.
  • Guides and trains the team in preparation of abstracts for submission to medical societies for data presentation.
  • In collaboration with clinical and marketing, develops scientific communication strategy and manages project timelines.
  • Contributes as a team leader to Marketing’s efforts in the preparation of documents for the promotion of approved products.
  • Contributes to the preparation of clinical protocol for clinical trials.
  • Keeps current on the relevant literature related to the Penumbra products.
  • Advances the development and/or maintenance of clinical infrastructure through the drafting or reviewing SOP’s and Work Instructions.
  • Works with confidential patient and company data, and interfaces with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works with key opinion leaders (KOL) on development of publication strategy.

  • A body of work that demonstrates outstanding writing skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biological sciences or health related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nursing, Biomedical or Veterinary Sciences) is preferred with 4+ years of medical writing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced degree from one of the Biological sciences highly desirable
  • 6+ years of experience in clinical/scientific research, nursing, or medical devices/pharmaceutical industry preferred
  • Experience in peripheral vascular market a plus
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Familiar with laws, regulations, standards and guidance governing the conduct of clinical studies and clinical evaluations a plus
  • Self-motivated and able to function with little supervision
