As an R&D member at Penumbra, you will be charged with designing game-changing medical devices to address some of the world’s toughest disease states. This role will be focusing primarily on Penumbra’s REAL System, our innovative virtual reality rehabilitation platform. You will apply your passion for creative problem-solving at all stages of the design process, from concept to commercialization, which will have a profound positive impact on the vast number of patients who will benefit from your efforts
What Success Looks Like
Thoughtful representation of R&D Engineering on a cross-functional team, ensuring collaboration, for all design control efforts leading to device submission to regulatory bodies worldwideLead joint design efforts from proof of concept to design freeze Manage day-to-day project activity for both R&D technical development and cross-functional design control efforts.Design, prototype, and optimize meaningful medical devices that revolutionize treatment paradigms for a variety of challenging disease states.Design fixturing for and execute on testing to support product development activities Strategize to originate comprehensive documentation packages that contain CAD drawings, PCB designs, software scripts, product specifications, risk analysis, test protocols, test reports, studies, etc. adherent to our quality system. Coordinate and form lasting relationships with suppliers and other external resources to source components and refine component specifications. Collate and distill clinical data from physicians, other medical professionals, and product managers into comprehensive product specifications to drive superior product performance. Collaborate across functional groups including, but not limited to, marketing, clinical, manufacturing, quality, and software development. Serve as a trustworthy resource who can positively influence and guide junior to mid-level engineers of varying disciplines through technical and documentation challenges with a focus on their growth. A passion and knack for solving hands-on and multi-disciplinary technical design problems is preferredA portfolio demonstrating strong engineering acumen and mechanical intuition is desiredExperience bringing one or more product designs from concept to commercialization Proven ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and compelling manner, both in writing and orally, is required.Refined soft skills that allow you to lead up and lead down with or without a formal reporting structureA track record of maintaining a high level of organization with the ability to navigate multiple tasks with competing priority is required8+ years of industry experience, driving projects to completion, and interfacing with cross-functional stakeholders, is required.Medical device experience or equally regulated environment experience is a plusStrong CAD skillset and proficient experience with surface modeling in plastic enclosures. Experience with injected molded parts, DFM, FEA, etc.Experience developing products which include printed circuit boardsExperience with LabView, Objective C, Python is a plusExperience with interventional medical products such as catheters, coils, etc is a plusBachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent work experience is required. Knowledge and experience in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science is a plus. MS or PhD is highly desired.
