As part of Penumbra’s legal team, you will support a growing and dynamic company that develops ground-breaking technology to further its mission of saving patients’ lives.  You will work closely with the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, other lawyers, paralegals and support staff as part of this closely-knit team while partnering with external departments essential to the Company’s operations.

What You'll Work On

  • Provide advice, legal direction, and training on applicable laws and regulations related to the development and commercialization of medical devices and other health technologies, including data privacy, product liability, healthcare fraud and abuse, and medical device regulations.
  • Provide pragmatic, business-oriented advice to teams (e.g., Engineering, R&D, Product Management, and Business Development) from the initial stages of product development through launch and commercialization.
  • Develop and maintain legal resources that are needed for products, such as terms of service, privacy notices, and other disclosures.
  • Review and structure agreements with potential partners in compliance with applicable law.
  • Develop guidelines and processes that enable teams to efficiently execute on product roadmaps.
  • Partner closely with privacy and security functions, as well as other attorneys, to ensure relevant stakeholders have all the necessary information for decisions to be made.
  • Efficiently manage outside counsel.
  • Address issues related to data privacy and security, both in the US and internationally.
  • What You Bring

  • J.D. and membership with the CA Bar, or at least one other state’s bar, and the ability to obtain registered in-house counsel status
  • 6+ years of relevant legal experience, with 3+ years of in-house experience
  • Knowledge of product development process and experience advising on legal issues related to software and hardware development, including licensing and product security strongly preferred
  • Sound judgment; demonstrated analytical, oral and written communication abilities; and strong interpersonal skills
  • Medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industry experience desired
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize assignments while handling various projects simultaneously
