Are you looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and innovative company?

Rigetti Computing is on a mission to build the world’s most powerful computers to help solve humanity’s most important and pressing problems. We believe this technology will fundamentally change the world for the better and will affect nearly every industry over the coming decades.

We are seeking talented interns to join us for an exciting opportunity to work on a number of projects across the company. As an intern, you will have the chance to collaborate with a passionate, dedicated team working across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines including RF electronics, cryogenics, superconducting circuits, mechanical engineering, and computer science.

Applications for the US summer internship will be accepted and reviewed until April 30, 2024. To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter indicating your interest in any of the projects described below:

Internship Projects

  • Quantum Algorithms & Optimization: This project focuses on numerical simulations and hardware experiments of variational quantum algorithms as applied to large optimization problems. The candidate should have a strong background in programming, in particular in python, coursework in computer science and experience with basic quantum algorithms (VQE, QAOA, etc…).

  • High Throughput Measurements of Superconducting Quantum Devices: As a member of the Quantum Materials team, the intern would assist in the characterization and calibration of superconducting integrated circuits with the intent of providing rapid feedback to our fabrication facility and inform fabrication process development.  The intern would also develop and implement improvements (software and hardware) to the current measurement infrastructure. Candidates should have experience in python, introductory undergraduate physics courses, and be familiar with standard electronic laboratory techniques and equipment. Experience or coursework on statistical analysis and quantum mechanics would be beneficial, but not required.

  • Superconducting Circuit Design Infrastructure Development: In this internship, the intern will develop and maintain software and modeling infrastructure related to the design of our superconducting quantum processors. Potential projects include automation of the design workflow, interfacing with commercial modeling tools such as Ansys HFSS, developing data visualizations of important design parameters and yield metrics, and the maintenance and extension of our internal modeling tools. Candidates should be enrolled in an undergraduate program in a STEM field, have hands-on experience in python and at a minimum, first year undergraduate courses in physics and computer science. Experience with large-scale, collaborative software projects, Ansys HFSS or similar, and coursework on electromagnetics would be beneficial, but not required.

  • Cryogenic Hardware Development: This internship supports various efforts related to the hardware team. Examples of possible hardware projects include building fixtures for mechanical assemblies, technical documentation, mechanical design, PCB design, DC and RF measurements (room-temperature and/or cryogenic), and thermal and electromagnetic modeling and testing. Candidates should have experience in one of these areas.
  • General Considerations

  • Rigetti supports a hybrid work environment, though some projects may require a commitment to onsite work
  • Rigetti is seeking candidates from a variety of backgrounds. We seek a mix of Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD candidates, and are also open to non-degree seeking candidates
  • Internship candidates must be eligible to be employed by a Rigetti legal entity and must successfully complete relevant background checks.
  • As engineering leaders, we value diversity and are committed to building a culture of inclusion to attract and engage innovative thinkers. Our technology, meant to serve all of humanity, cannot succeed if those who built it do not mirror the diversity of the communities we serve. Applications from women, minorities, and other under-represented groups are encouraged.
