The Role

The Riot Communications Discipline includes subject matter experts in community relations, media relations, internal communication, social media, influencer management, and beyond. In partnership with product, regional, and esports publishing teams, Comms helps players and other key audiences better understand Riot, how we work, and the motivations behind our choices. As a group we love storytelling and finding the perfect channels to tell those stories.

As an editorial writer on the Player Community Team, you'll report to the Editorial Team Lead. You'll partner with game designers, comms strategists, video editors, and more to shine a light on Riot's approach to game development and help audiences connect to the people behind the games they love. You'll use your understanding of what players care about to tell meaningful, emotional, and downright fun stories from game development. You'll also be encouraged to explore new writing formats to reach and inspire players across all of Riot's games.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and execute on editorial opportunities across the entire portfolio of Riot’s products
  • Write and edit stories, scripts, and other behind-the-scenes content, leveraging tone and voice to resonate with a variety of audiences
  • Plan out work and set timelines to bring concepts to publication
  • Contribute to creative brainstorms with video editors, video directors, writers, and other disciplines to develop content across media

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years writing editorial or communications for web, social, or other channels
  • Ability to write from the perspective of a specific audience
  • Experience self-editing and working in a collaborative writing process

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with at least one of Riot's current games or genres
  • Interest or light experience mentoring others in craft
  • Passion or high curiosity for what gaming competitors and top companies are doing—especially how they speak to players

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about the experiences of players, this could be the role for you
