ELECTRICAL TEST ENGINEER (STARSHIP AVIONICS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop test solutions for in-house developed avionics hardware products which will fly to space
  • Write automation software in Python to interact with units under test, test equipment, instrumentation, and production documentation systems
  • Troubleshoot test software and modify code to adjust test parameters, output reports, fix minor bugs, and implement production improvements which do not require major changes to the software architecture
  • Troubleshoot test failures to identify source of non-conformances including failures due to software, test hardware, or device under test
  • Prepare engineering documentation necessary for the transition from development to production including test procedures standard operating procedures
  • Work closely with and consistently provide feedback to manufacturing engineers to drive design or infrastructure improvements to increase product reliability and yield
  • Write and release work instructions for any off-nominal operations
  • Verify and approve production readiness of test hardware and software for new product introduction (NPI)
  • Responsible for test readiness, resolving work stoppages, delegating associated tasks, and general progression of flight hardware through the testing process
  • Root-cause test failures to ensure issues are understood and develop and implement mitigations as part of a process of continuous improvement

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or physics 
  • 1+ years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering via professional experience, internships, research and/or independent projects
  • 2+ years of programming experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with test equipment and the use of measurement techniques
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing to analyze and improve test coverage
  • Understanding of metrology, sources of measurement error, and uncertainty analysis
  • Experience implementing design for manufacture and design for test
  • Experience developing object-oriented software
  • Experience analyzing circuits and developing functional test plans
  • Understanding and experience in environmental testing such as vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, and TVA
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility required
