INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER, STARLINK GATEWAYS

SpaceX is building and deploying worldwide terrestrial connectivity infrastructure to support the Starlink satellite constellations and provide internet to users all over the globe. Our infrastructure team owns sourcing gateway (ground station) antenna sites globally, designing terrestrial connectivity topologies, developing corporate partnerships domestically and abroad, and ensuring our ground system supports the overall Starlink business development strategy. We work with internal and external regulatory, engineering, technician, supply chain, and business teams to facilitate acquisition, development and ultimate readiness of the assets on the ground that are critical to bridging the gap between the Starlink satellite constellation and the broader terrestrial internet.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess candidate ground infrastructure technical feasibility using established engineering tools and protocols to achieve site engineering requirements
  • Develop standardized ground infrastructure interface documents, presentations and protocols
  • Coordinate with vendor, third party contractors, and internal teams to arrange permitting, construction, and deployment of sites
  • Create and provide tools, processes, and automation to entire gateway organization to facilitate efficient infrastructure establishment process
  • Perform simulation and analysis to guide design of infrastructure to meet Starlink service goals
  • Analyze performance of existing assets to suggest improvements or corrective actions to support customer base growth and continued reliability of service
  • Responsible for identification and acquisition of resources to establish infrastructure supporting Starlink service in markets of interest
  • Design infrastructure topology to meet Starlink network requirements
  • Produce tools and dashboards to facilitate efficient and cohesive infrastructure acquisition
  • Monitor and respond to infrastructure augmentations needed to continue growing user base or maintain a reliable service to customers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics
  • 1+ years of professional experience in a technical project management role

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience producing dashboards or analytical and statistical models (Ex: Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Proficiency coding in SQL, Matlab, Python, C++, or similar
  • Experience selecting, developing, and managing vendors and contractors
  • Demonstrated success in multidisciplinary project execution
  • Self-starting, able to identify areas for improvement with minimal direction
  • Experience producing construction drawings or plans
  • Experience with fiber optic networking and datacenter design
  • Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to travel at least 15% of the time, to US or international ground station sites
  • Must be willing to work long hours and occasional weekends when necessary to support launch and critical project timelines
