RF ENGINEER, STARLINK REGULATORY 

Starlink will provide high-speed broadband around the world. Telecommunication is a heavily regulated business and this position will advise SpaceX on legal and policy advocacy to ensure these regulations enable and protect the provision of this ground-breaking service. This position will require you to apply expertise and focus to advance Starlink’s licensing and spectrum position in front of domestic and global regulators and government bodies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive technical analyses pertaining to radio frequency interference, satellite spectrum coordination, and broadband issues.
  • Draft and maintain international (ITU) regulatory filings that represent Starlink’s RF requirements.
  • Provide RF technical support in the drafting process for pleadings, letters, and other advocacy pieces to promote SpaceX’s policy positions.
  • Interface with internal engineer teams to ensure Starlink’s technical requirements and spectrum policies are reflected in external policy agenda, such as in papers presented at the ITU’s World Radio Communications Conference.
  • Represent and promote the company technical RF positions before regulators, legislatures, regional organizations, and other satellite operators.
  • Provide strategic regulatory advice and advocacy support to business development efforts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience as an RF engineer.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience as an RF engineer at a satellite communications company.
  • Knowledge of satellite communications, including link budgets, antenna theory and design, and interference analysis.
  • Experience conducting and interpreting technical RF interference analyses.
  • Experience driving or supporting satellite spectrum coordination negotiations.
  • Pervious knowledge or a strong willingness to learn FCC rules and ITU Radio Regulations.
  • Experience with and understanding of foreign and domestic broadband policy, as well as spectrum use and policies.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones.

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
