SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

SENIOR HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER (STARLINK)

Starlink believes in providing fast, reliable internet to serve populations with little or no connectivity. We design, build, and launch the world's largest constellation of satellites, enabling us to operate a global internet network unbounded by traditional ground infrastructure limitations. Starlink is now delivering initial beta service and accepting pre-orders both domestically and internationally, and will continue expansion to near global coverage of the populated world in 2022.

As a Senior Hardware Development Engineer on the Starlink team, you will spearhead the development of millions of consumer facing devices that we ship directly to customers (Starlink dishes/user terminals, Wi-Fi routers, etc.) You will be responsible for the design, implementation and verification of the entire electrical system. You will interact regularly with senior leadership to influence the fundamental operation of our constellation and network while collaborating with electrical, silicon, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to steer this project from initial concept development to full scale production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rapidly design, develop and test highly reliable and high volume electronics for communicating with our satellites
  • Drive electrical architecture, circuit design, component selection, analysis, prototyping, and debugging
  • Design & simulate electronic circuits in one or more of the following areas:
    • Power electronics (buck converters, point of load converters, linear regulators, off-line AC-DC supplies, isolated DC-DC supplies)
    • Digital electronics (Ethernet, high speed SerDes, processors, DRAM, flash, clocks)
    • Analog electronics (WiFi, Bluetooth, satellite links, ADCs, DACs, op-amps)
  • Create software scripts to automate hardware tests, simulate hardware systems or analyze data
  • Partner with software, antenna, mechanical, layout, environments, test, and manufacturing teams

  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing electronic circuits in one or more of the following areas:
    • Power electronic circuits using buck converters (current mode, constant on-time, multi-phase), linear regulators, motor controllers (brushed, brushless) and offline power supplies (LLC resonant, flyback, forward)
    • Digital electronic circuits using Ethernet (1G, 2.5G, 10G), multi-GHz SerDes, multi-core processors, DRAM (DDR3, DDR4), I2C, SPI, flash (UFS, eMMC, NAND), synchronized clocks
    • Analog electronic circuits using WiFi, Bluetooth, satellite links, analog to digital converters (ADCs), digital to analog converters (DACs), op-amps, comparators
  • 5+ years of professional experience rapidly designing and delivering highly reliable and high volume power products
  • 5+ years of experience with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
  • 5+ years of professional experience simulating, testing, troubleshooting and debugging power electronics
  • 5+ years of experience designing products that meet FCC, IEC, ETSI, EU and international standards
  • 5+ years of professional experience with fast-paced projects
