SR. MECHANICAL ENGINEER (STARSHIP TOOLING)

As a member of the Starship engineering team, you will work with a team of elite engineers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate critical production assets required to build the Starship launch vehicle. This position is based at our Starship production facility in Brownsville, Texas but may involve work on designs that are implemented across all of SpaceX’s sites supporting the Starship program. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and development of production tooling for the Starship launch vehicle
  • Develop the production site of the future to enable rapid build, test, and operation of our manned and inter-planetary transport architectures
  • Use your well-rounded technical knowledge to display proficiency in basic structural sizing, mechanisms, and design while making development decisions based on cost and schedule considerations

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience using a high-end CAD software design package (e.g. NX, CATIA, or ProE)
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing, analyzing, and implementing mechanical systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Experience working at a production facility
  • Experience with automated production equipment
  • Experience managing large assembly models and drawings
  • Hands on experience with equipment manufacturing and implementation
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design of welded structures
  • Experience designing mechanisms
  • Experience with production tooling or product design in either prototype or volume environments
  • Strong understanding and application of GD&T
  • Experience with finite element analysis software
  • Experience designing mass efficient structures
  • Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to travel to other SpaceX locations as necessary, up to 25%
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
  • Work schedule may vary depending on site operational needs which may require extended hours, and flexibility is required
  • Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
