SUPERVISOR, WELDING (STARSHIP PAD BUILD)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and mentor a team of welders
  • Foster and instill a strong safety culture across all SpaceX job sites
  • Develop and evaluate welding procedures
  • Oversee and control production weld quality
  • Track productivity and develop time/cost saving processes
  • Maintain the application of welding codes and standards
  • Manage lump sum weld/fab contractor teams in the field
  • Review and edit documentation, including work reports and record keeping
  • Assign organization for field work and project time estimations
  • Contribute preliminary and critical design reviews to educate design and manufacturing engineers on best shop and field build/weld practices
  • Schedule teams based on skillsets to best suit particular projects

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 5+ years of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), or gas metal arc welding (GMAW) experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in structural and piping fabrication
  • Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Experience managing 10+ employees in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to interpret drawings and weld symbols per AWS A2.4
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1, D1.6, D1.2 and ASME B31.3 fabrication and welding requirements
  • Trade school certificate

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work day shift (6:00 AM - 6:00 PM) or night shift (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM)
  • Willing to work long hours and weekends as necessary to meet business needs
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time to our other sites in support of build out activities
  • Ability to work for prolonged periods in a confined space
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment 35 lbs.
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
