SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS (STARLINK)

Starlink demands a new type of supply chain. We require our suppliers to provide premium quality with rapidly evolving designs at commercial scale volumes. We are actively looking for candidates who possess comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality tools and have unrelenting motivation to enable suppliers for success. This position requires a combination of proven leadership and technical capabilities.

This is a technical position that requires practical experience with high volume manufacturing of printed circuit boards and assemblies (PCB/A), cable harnesses or electrical components. The ideal candidate will have broad understanding of these products with the desire and capability to take on new challenges in unfamiliar areas to help enable our mission to Mars.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the technical execution of high-volume production at a contract manufacturer
  • Conduct technical capability and production capacity assessment at suppliers to help drive allocation decisions
  • Manage new product introduction (NPI) cycles from prototype to high-volume manufacturing
  • Provide technical guidance to design teams to aid in the rapid development of products
  • Conduct design for manufacturing (DFM) reviews and drive production part approval (PPAP) to limit production risks
  • Conduct quality actions such as containment and disposition of non-conforming parts, root-cause investigation, and corrective and preventative actions (CAPA)
  • Conduct periodic reviews with suppliers to drive continuous improvements in the product or manufacturing process
  • Work cross-functionally to incorporate customer feedback, find innovative solutions and unlock affordable high-speed internet for all

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering 
  • 2+ years of experience working in mass production environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in manufacturing, electrical, mechanical or materials engineering
  • Experience with high volume foreign manufacturing
  • Familiar with supplier quality management including part production approval process (PPAP), advanced product quality planning (APQP), or design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
  • Knowledge of statistical methods relating to manufacturing including design of experiments (DOE), statistical process control (SPC)
  • Experience with quality systems and auditing procedures (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100/NADCAP)
  • Creative but disciplined approach to problem solving using techniques such as 5 why or eight discipline (8D) and following through with corrective and preventative actions (CAPA)
  • Proficient in MS Office applications for data analysis and report creation
  • Experience with sharing information and influencing others across organizational lines, internally and externally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to make presentations to suppliers, team members and management

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Position may require long hours and some nights and weekends when needed to hit critical deadlines
  • Ability to travel: Up to 25-60% work week travel is required
  • Valid driver’s license
