Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, this role will be an integral part of bringing the vision of what the Strava product can be for athletes through driving strategic company-wide efforts, catalyzing and enabling scale and footprint expansions, and preparing for public-company readiness.
As a Senior GL Accountant, you will collaborate across the company to help drive our close and reporting process in accordance with US GAAP. You will be a key member of a highly talented team that enables our business growth, aligns team development with company goals and values, and continues to evolve our accounting and reporting infrastructure.
We follow a flexible hybrid model that generally translates to half your time on-site in our San Francisco office— three days per week.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead, prepare and manage aspects of the monthly close activities, including: preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations and flux analysis.
- Own key components of the monthly close for our US entity and subsidiaries, including cash, accruals, allocations, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets.
- Identify and scale processes to improve efficiencies and incorporate systems and best practices to maximize process automation.
- Facilitate and support audits through the delivery of records and documentation to external auditors, as required.
- Serve as a key resource for FP&A and Controllership to deliver relevant, timely, and accurate financial data and metrics to enable operational efficiency.
- Be part of a public readiness journey from late-stage private to public including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
- Develop, maintaining and adhering to policies and procedures, calendars, checklists, process maps, and other procedural documentation. Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures. Partner cross-functionally to provide compliance reporting and process controls.
- Perform regular internal review procedures to ensure proper documentation, records, and reviews and sign-offs. Conduct research to ensure any anomalies are explained and resolved.
- Operate as an accounting subject matter expert, collaborating with business stakeholders on business-lead initiatives. Facilitate the development of project plans and schedules, as necessary.
- Develop and maintaining in-depth knowledge of all systems to independently research and resolve issues.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, related field, or combination of professional experience
- 4+ years of experience in general accounting; A combination of industry and public accounting experience is preferred but not required
- Proven ability to manage and understand US GAAP and general accounting processes
- Experience with Netsuite (or an equivalent ERP system) and FloQast
- Proven ability to design, implement, and continuously optimize close processes, as well as internal controls, aimed at balancing operational risk, quality, and increased efficiencies
- Demonstrated strength with analytical and problem-solving skills, including advanced ability to analyze and present data
- System implementation experience
- Proven ability to maintain excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Compensation Overview:
At Strava, we know our employees are the most important ingredient to our success, and our compensation and total rewards programs reflect that. We take a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on the department and your location. Salary ranges are categorized into one of three tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. We will determine the candidate’s starting pay based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. We may modify these ranges in the future. Compensation: $91,000 - $110,000. The base salary posted is within the compensation range for this role and reflects base pay only - not equity or benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
