The Trade Desk is seeking a Tax Manager to support our growth in the APAC region (covering 10+ locations). This role is based in Shanghai and reports to the APAC Controller while also working closely with our global tax team with a dotted reporting line into the Global Tax Senior Manager. WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Manage all tax matters for the APAC region including but not limited to corporate tax, indirect taxes (VAT/GST etc.), transfer pricing, withholding taxes, employment taxes including taxation of equity awards and expatriate tax.
- Take ownership of quarterly and annual US GAAP tax provision (ASC 740) for APAC entities, reporting to the global tax team based in US head office and determining GAAP to tax adjustments.
- Oversee completion of monthly, quarterly and annual tax and tax-related compliance filings, working alongside in-country tax consulting firms, including reviewing and providing approval for submission and payments to the tax authorities in APAC jurisdictions.
- Lead or actively participate in tax audits, working alongside local advisors to provide requested information and respond to in-country tax authorities as and when required.
- Review and document all APAC tax filing requirements and assess changes of new/updated tax legislation that impact our business or employees in the countries we operate in. Consult in-country tax consulting firms and escalate matters of risk and importance to the global tax team when needed.
- Take on responsibility of enhancing current tax reporting and tax compliance processes and procedures, continuously looking at ways we can improve our workflow and/or mitigate risk.
- Manage and review the work of third-party tax service providers, seeking to improving efficiency and building relationships that lead to improved levels of service.
- Work across regional and global teams to proactively manage and address tax-related inquiries.
- Participate in other ad-hoc tax projects, as required.
WHO YOU ARE:
- A Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA), preferably with 7+ years of progressive experience from both audit firm and in-house corporate tax teams.
- Strong understanding of tax accounting and reporting under US GAAP, and statutory and regulatory framework under IFRS and/or FRS 101 and 102.
- Experience working for a scaled US-listed technology company is preferred.
- Able to be available during early and late business hours to accommodate global time zones, able to travel as required.
- Action-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills, ready to roll up your sleeves and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to present information persuasively and effectively, working with a wide variety of stakeholders to deliver high-quality results.
- Collaborative and proactive with a strong sense of ownership, possessing the ability to prioritize tasks when faced with multiple, diverse, and conflicting demands.
- Proven experience as a business partner and subject matter expert, with the ability to think strategically from differing points of view, be resourceful and develop creative solutions.
- Handles problems with confidence and maturity, knowing when to make decisions and when to escalate appropriately.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the capacity to build positive working relationships across the finance function, within different teams and at every level in the organization.
