Internal Medicine Assistant
The Internal Medicine Department at Caring Hands Animal Hospital Clarendon is hiring a full-time Internal Medicine Assistant. We are a small and dedicated team dedicated to providing the highest level of outpatient specialty veterinary care with compassion, innovation, and collaboration. Internal Medicine specializes in diagnosing and treating complex medical conditions in pets, ensuring the highest level of care through collaboration with referring veterinarians and pet owners. Position Summary
As a Veterinary Assistant in our Internal Medicine department, you will play a key role in assisting with advanced diagnostic procedures, patient care, and client communication. This position is ideal for a compassionate, detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in specialty veterinary medicine.

Salary: $25 to $30/hr based on experience and skillset.
Schedule: Will work full time hours, work days are full days Monday-Thursday with a part day every other Friday with opposite Friday off.
Job Overview:
- Handle and restrain patients safely and compassionately
- Assist with advanced diagnostic procedures including:
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Thoracic and abdominal radiography
- Endoscopy (GI, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy)
- CT scan preparation and patient monitoring
- Fine needle aspirates and biopsies
- Assist in patient preparation, restraint, and recovery for procedures requiring sedation or anesthesia
- Monitor vital signs and patient status during procedures and hospital stays
- Collect, label, and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces, effusions) for in-house or external lab analysis
- Administer oral, topical, and injectable medications per DVM orders
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records in practice management software (Avimark)
- Assist with sterile and non-sterile procedure setup and cleanup
- Provide compassionate, informed client education and updates under veterinary or technician guidance
- Perform general cleaning, stocking, and administrative support duties
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment at all times

- Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally and compassionately with clients, referring vets, and internal teams.
- Organizational Skills:
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is required to manage multiple cases and maintain accurate records.
- Technical Proficiency:
Comfort with using Avimark software and Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to manage complex situations, prioritize tasks, and solve problems with a patient and solution-oriented approach.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years Veterinary Assistant Experience
- Strong interest in internal medicine and advanced veterinary procedures
