Carrier Performance Manager

Wayfair continues to build industry-shaping infrastructure and capabilities in Logistics to fuel growth and delight our customers. As part of this journey, we are seeking bright, entrepreneurial leaders to help us drive initiatives related to our most strategic topics that will propel Wayfair from $16B to $30B and beyond.

The Transportation Strategy and Operations team is responsible for developing the strategy and execution of Home Delivery logistics with a $1B+ portfolio across North America. We are looking for a leader to join the Carrier Management team responsible for managing the relationships and driving logistics performance with our key strategic partners. The role combines strategic partnership and negotiations, industry thought leadership, financial and analytical acumen, logistics and warehouse operations with broad ownership and visibility on driving key strategic performance initiatives. The right candidate has proven carrier management experience, analytical competency, and the ability to build strong relationships with leadership both internally and externally with our carrier partners. Candidates should also have a collaborative leadership style and a demonstrated ability to drive results in partnership with other teams at Wayfair. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Cultivate and strengthen key strategic relationships with our largest carrier partners
  • Ownership of KPIs and responsible for driving weekly improvement in metrics
  • Root-causing and working with carriers hand in hand to communicate strategies, solve issues, uncover areas of opportunity and create an action plan to further drive performance
  • Develop, champion and manage joint initiatives with our carrier partners to create stronger collaboration and partnership as well as unlock new areas of value 
  • Partner with key cross-functional leaders across Operations, Category Management, Sales & Service, Merchandising, and Technology/Engineering to create alignment in strategic approach and successfully realize your vision

Strategic Projects could include:

  • Lead performance engagement with carriers evaluating cost, operational service levels, value added services and implementation onto the Wayfair transportation platform
  • Develop and execute performance improvement strategies designed to achieve cost efficiencies and unlock key areas of mutual value
  • Leverage data and analytics to develop new strategies to drive performance and cost effectively deliver Wayfair product to customers 
  • Communicate and secure capacity expectations for peak events

Key Skills and Experience:

  • MBA/MS preferred, with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience 
  • Relevant industry experience in managing strategic relationships preferred including consulting, work experience on the carrier side or carrier strategy from the business side. 
  • Biased towards action. We are looking for someone that can iterate, learn from mistakes and propose new solutions.  
  • Strong leadership ability. A hands-on team player that can inspire/mentor staff members. 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive complex projects to completion using effective project management, communication and influence. Relentless about following up until the job is done.
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills. Able to analyze data sets, pull out insights and then proactively communicate those insights to senior leaders. Able to grasp complex issues and look beyond the obvious. 
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to work successfully within and across teams. Able to build relationships at all levels in the organization.
  • Self-motivated and proactive. Makes sound business decisions even when faced with ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Extensive experience working with Excel is highly preferred, SQL is a plus but not required.
