We are looking for an exceptional privacy lawyer to lead global privacy and data protection compliance and legal strategy. This is a global and cross-functional role, with touch points across every team in our dynamic business. This lawyer will need to work collaboratively with business counterparts, while also demonstrating entrepreneurial skills and an ability to deliver results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

 

This position can be based in our Boston, Austin, Mountain View, Seattle or Toronto office with a hybrid work schedule, 4 days in office and 1 day remote each week.

 

What You'll Do

  • Drive our global privacy and data protection programs in collaboration with other key privacy and business partners. 
  • Support, scale and promote key privacy program initiatives – including data minimization, classification and mapping – across a complex technology environment.
  • Lead responses to privacy or data protection incidents or regulatory inquiries.
  • Draft, negotiate and support privacy and data protection components of commercial transactions and business initiatives, including vendor evaluations, impact/risk assessments, data processing agreements, and data transfer mechanisms.
  • Manage a knowledge base of applicable rules, regulations and requirements and related privacy and data protection business controls.
  • Develop and maintain business and consumer friendly disclosures, policies, terms and processes, including those in support of data subject rights and the customer privacy journey.
  • Consult with technology stakeholders on privacy-by-design product development and build consensus between competing product objectives and privacy principles.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys in the Legal department as a privacy subject matter expert and foster cross-functional privacy champions.

 

What You'll Need

  • J.D. with top academic credentials and membership with at least one state bar.
  • Experience with CCPA, CPRA, other U.S. state privacy legislation, the GDPR, marketing laws (e.g. TCPA) as well as experience with the privacy requirements of major technology platforms and cyber security standards.
  • A bias to action, including a willingness to roll-up sleeves, pitch-in and tackle complex problems with the broader Wayfair team, including both legal and non-legal colleagues. 
  • Highly effective, business-friendly and persuasive writing and communication skills including excellent negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
  • Project management experience and the ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines and maintain flexibility in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

The Wayfair Legal team provides advice and guidance on laws and regulations applicable to the company’s global operations. We partner with the business to solve problems, launch new initiatives, and balance risk while facilitating global growth.
