Who We Are:

Wayfair is home to one of the retail industry’s largest in-house creative agencies. The Creative Group is a world-class team comprised of many disciplines – designers, copywriters, stylists, editors, cinematographers, directors, producers, and more. Our work fuels all forms of on-site and off-site marketing and communication with our consumers, from TV to online video to social, email, direct mail, and more.

The Product Copy team is seeking a copy manager/writer with 6+ years of professional writing experience to manage a team of writers and create engaging, clear, and persuasive product description copy for Wayfair’s Exclusive Brands and Specialty Retail Brands (Joss & Main, AllModern, and Birch Lane). The ideal candidate is an amazing writer, analytical thinker, and detail-oriented editor with a passion for home furnishings and decor, who works well in a self-directed environment.

This is a 6-month, 40 hour/week remote opportunity. Ability to work from Wayfair's Boston office in the future is preferred. Applicants will be asked to complete a writing test.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage, lead, and inspire a team of copywriters.
  • Oversee production for your direct reports, including output and copy quality.
  • Develop and maintain the brand’s voice standards, team reference documentation, and best practices as they relate to product descriptions.
  • Collaborate and maintain open lines of communications with the team lead, project manager, and primary stakeholders to prioritize projects and report on their progress, allocate resources, and drive innovation and efficiency in our workflows and processes.
  • Approximately half of your time will still be devoted to writing product descriptions that adhere to each brand’s unique voice and SEO best practices. Expected writing output is 85 product descriptions/week, each of which is ~80 words.
  • Determine unique selling angles for products based on product class, materials, design/style, and features.
  • Lead team meetings and standups to give feedback on copy, elevate its quality, and establish high-level direction.
  • Do all of the above in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are daily and the volume of work is high. The pace should thrill you, not derail you.

Who You Are:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience writing for a retail audience (either in-house or at an agency) or shelter publication (digital or print) with an understanding of marketing principles. Experience writing product descriptions or product-specific content with a focus on SEO is preferred.
  • Proven experience leading and developing a team of writers.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills.
  • A self-starter who thrives in a positive, team-driven environment. Can multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency with the Google suite of applications.

For consideration, you must provide a cover letter detailing your interest and suitability for the role. An online portfolio or samples of your work are also required.
