Wayfair believes everyone deserves a home they love and that furnishing your home should be a source of fun, not anxiety. Our product team plays a crucial role in making this vision a reality for millions of people around the world. Partnering with engineering, UX design, analytics, and business partners across Wayfair, our product team ensures that we’re building technology that solves important customer problems in elegant, scalable, measurable ways. We have a modern tech stack including sophisticated capabilities around AI, data science, multivariate testing, and personalization. We’re a highly collaborative, supportive team that values learning, psychological safety, and intentional career development.

At Wayfair, our Event Exchange is crucial to our data strategy, providing a real-time stream of valuable customer information that enables personalized experiences across our website and mobile apps. With billions of events emitted through our platform, we are constantly striving for new ways to improve. Our platform provides developers with tools and clients to easily produce high-quality data at scale, while also making it easily accessible to thousands of users across Wayfair through real-time streams and updates. Our data is used by data scientists to create machine learning models that enhance customer experiences and optimize our supply chain. Analysts across the company rely on our data to make strategic business decisions that have a significant financial impact, while our data also serves as an early warning system for critical issues.

What You'll Do:

  • Be the thought leader on event emission strategy for application teams.
  • Lead cross-functional work streams across multiple orgs within Wayfair.
  • Conduct discovery activities to understand the needs of data producers and consumers.
  • Translate these needs into ambitious yet actionable roadmaps and requirements for your engineering team to deliver.

What You'll Need:

  • 4+ years of experience shipping platforms for data, ML, and/or infrastructure.
  • Take ownership and be a visible leader who fills the void and catches the balls. You move fast, yet are humble and inclusive.
  • Passionate about data, with experience in realtime vs. batch data processing, schemas and ontologies, and serving ML use cases while saving infrastructure costs.
  • Ability to empathize with engineers and to perform basic DS/MLE tasks (e.g. build a basic model, write code) to use our own  products and platforms.
  • A strong customer – able to explain their workflows better than many of them can. You are rigorous about conducting customer interviews and maintain a high quality bar.
  • Excited about roadmaps and white papers and can think ambitiously about the long term for your platform.
  • Enjoy marketing products and are highly effective at presenting to senior audiences.
  • Dive deep into data to produce insights and understand your system's architecture, augmenting your team's implementations with solid "what if" questions and a healthy dose of skepticism.
