Wayfair runs the largest in-house-built big parcel network of all e-commerces in the United States, standing at approximately 1.6 million square meters of logistics space across North America and Europe. A network of these massive proportions is inherently a highly variable ecosystem that requires flexible, reliable, and resilient systems to operate efficiently.

As the Staff Engineer you will work with our cross-functional International markets team, you will have the opportunity to empower your team to contribute to building some of the most resilient domains in our organisation. And we need your help to further strengthen, empower and support the engineering organisation by bringing engineering best practices and operational excellence to the table.

For this role, we need a Staff frontend software engineer that will influence our software architecture and their peers to drive advancement initiatives within their team to improve our systems, practices, and business. You will be working in a results-oriented team that highly values good collaboration and autonomy. The tech stack includes React, Typescript, PHP, a mix of REST and Kafka interfaces, RDBMs, Aerospike, and K8s among others. And will be incorporating other technologies as the platform evolves.

The Role

As a part of our team, you’ll make sure we’re delivering high value to our company while building long-sighted reliable solutions.

  • Take ownership of high impact projects
  • Manage value, complexity, and risk.
  • Partner with your business stakeholders, providing them transparency, data, and resources to make informed decisions

  • Work on a diverse group of systems that covers everything in the web stack
  • Contribute to architectural and code review discussions impacting our engineering ecosystem

What You'll Need

  • A passion for technology. You love untangling and bringing order to complex systems, and you’re able to unite teams to execute toward that common goal.
  • A passion for customer-driven design and development. It’s not just about executing on a project specification handed to you by a stakeholder, but about working together to figure out exactly what the customer wants, and delivering it to them
  • 8-15 years industry experience preferred with at least 5 years of experience driving organizational change through technical leadership
  • Extensive experience with SQL and object-oriented languages like Java, PHP or Scala along with object-oriented design, and a thorough understanding of system design for the web

  • Experience with internationalization platforms a plus

At Wayfair, we want every new engineer to help raise the bar for our engineering teams -- to bring in new ideas, to mentor strong engineers, and to serve as a model of a technical leader. All of these aspects are particularly important for this role. We value people who are: risk-taking, data-oriented & collaborative. We are not biassed towards any specific technology be it PHP, C#, Python, Javascript, Java, instead, we place tremendous value on engineers who are excited to make an impact on the overall business.
