Senior Technical Program Manager, Supplier Group

Wayfair is looking for a Senior TPM leader to organize and drive the technology initiatives that support our Supplier Engineering Group. Our team is now building cutting-edge applications and self-service tools which will aid Wayfair sellers in every step of the e-commerce journey. From onboarding to creating and updating their product catalog, to improving the merchandising and pricing of individual products - we will be offering guidance and recommending world-class solutions at every step. Our goal is to make it as easy for anyone to sell on Wayfair as it is to buy from Wayfair.

The Supplier Engineering team has been tasked with spearheading the next set of major growth for Wayfair as we strive towards our goal of growing from a $15B company to a $100B company. With this comes the opportunity for you to work on and lead high-visibility projects that have an extremely high impact on Wayfair. Furthermore, you will be green fielding the way we’re going to build applications for our sellers going forward.

As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you will be primarily responsible for scoping and delivering large projects end-to-end. Responsibilities include ownership of a program encompassing one or more products, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing the program launch. You will be making appropriate tradeoffs to optimize for quality and time-to-market, clearly communicating goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal and external cross-functional and remote project teams.

The right candidate will possess a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects, and will have a well-rounded technical background in current software and/or hardware disciplines. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get the job done.

An ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, innovative (both with technology and in getting things done), and highly influential. They will love using technology to solve complex problems in a high-growth environment with a passionate and engaged team and advocating for the needs of our 21 million customers. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, organization, and planning skills.  They will be able to create repeatable program frameworks leveraging methodologies like scaled agile or hybrid frameworks that make multiple teams come together to deliver the value.

Who We Are:

Wayfair believes everyone should live in a home they love. Through technology and innovation, we make it possible for 21 million shoppers to quickly and easily find exactly what they want from a selection of more than 14 million items across home furnishings, décor, home improvement, housewares, and more. Partnering with Engineering, Product Management, Experience Design, Analytics, and business leaders across Wayfair, our teams ensure that we’re building technology that solves important customer problems in elegant, scalable, and measurable ways.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Define the mission, vision, and guiding principles for the program management office; setting the objectives, analyzing the data to inform decisions, driving outcomes, and influencing the resourcing of your key initiatives.
  • Define framework and tools for world-class program management practices. Standardize the practices, tools, and frameworks across the organization.
  • Create buy-in for the technical vision and execution plan both internally and across key partners
  • Present at multiple internal and external forums key goals and progress towards those goals
  • Lead planning and prioritization for product, design, marketing and engineering teams
  • Build a team to run multiple Supplier tech initiatives
  • Drive the creation of scalable, cross-cutting solutions from concept to delivery with your cross-functional technology partners; you’ll be able to zoom into the weeds of a solution or back out to the SVP-level to communicate constraints and outcomes.
  • Create plans that have clear, measurable success criteria, and clearly communicate progress and outcomes.
  • Create roadmaps and plans that have a clear series of milestones, measurable success criteria, and clearly communicate progress and outcomes.
  • Simplify complexity for the team, drive smart tradeoff decisions, and deliver incremental value.
  • Force multiply the efforts of many teams to deliver impact by removing bottlenecks before they become roadblocks, optimizing working models, and instrumenting repeatable processes.
  • Own the prevention of traditional failures: bad understanding of the customer/business problem, weak collaboration, interdependencies not being mapped, weak technical solutioning (debt), gaps in testing, or unclear success measurement.
  • Communicate and align with senior leadership, both within the Engineering and Operational organizations. You will effectively paint with context and drive high-quality decisions.

What You’ll Need:

  • A track record of delivering complicated software solutions (products, systems, features) in a scaled agile environment.
  • Understanding how distributed systems and software solutions are built to help guide the product development, peer group.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Build positive, trusting relationships through consistent, on-time delivery of commitments and effective communication
  • Build the technical and execution strategy and vision
  • Exercise technical judgment in working with large, cross-functional teams.
  • Manage programs, define milestones and success criteria, and allocate resources.
  • Develop tools and processes to improve program productivity.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with a bias for customer-focused innovation.
  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated experience turning data into actionable insights.
  • A BS in computer science or a related technical discipline or MBA with a focus on tech and engineering management
  • 5-7 years of experience in software engineering, software product management, software development management, or technical program management.
