We are hiring an Engineering Manager - an organizational leader - in Wayfair’s Finance Technology department. In this role, you will be a technical visionary - developing a technical roadmap for one of our Finance Technology software teams, architecting solutions at scale to empower the business, and owning all aspects of the SDLC.

Our new finance technology platform is a key pillar supporting the continued growth of Wayfair by enabling new and existing business lines to generate increased sales, collect revenue, and gain valuable financial performance insights with a minimal amount of initial or ongoing engineering effort.

The Finance Technical Systems support Wayfair’s billion dollar e-commerce activities, our global logistics and warehouse network,and our global sales and support staff. The system must be built to support all of our future streams of revenue, all of which generate a massive amount of financial transaction data that must be integrated into our existing reporting pipelines. All of this must be processed through our systems to be validated, analyzed, and reported on.

What You'll Do:

  • Directly manage 6-10 software engineers by providing coaching, guidance, and mentorship to grow the team as well as individuals
  • Work with a variety of technologies, including PHP, Python, Java, SQL, React, Kafka, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP
  • Play a key role in developing and driving a multi-year technology strategy in the finance domain
  • Develop and empower your peers by building an environment that promotes the growth, confidence, and productivity of the team outside of those you directly manage
  • Seek out, define, and evolve best practices within teams’ area of focus as well as initiatives that raise the standards across the organization

What you’ll need: 

  • B.S. in computer science/related field or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of professional experience in an engineering and/or technical lead role
  • 4+ years of experience leading/managing 6+ developers of various levels
  • Experience making architectural and design-related decisions for large scale platforms, understanding the tradeoffs between time-to-market vs. flexibility.
  • Hands-on experience driving software transformations within high-growth environments
  • Experience hiring and mentoring engineers across all levels
  • Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Experience building a variety of applications ranging from low latency APIs to large scale batch systems
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders alike
