The SEM Campaign Automation team is responsible for building Wayfair’s class leading search marketing platform supporting Wayfair’s global digital marketing efforts for one of our largest marketing channels. Our platform touches hundreds of millions of consumers and drives billions of dollars in annual revenue. Our platforms allow us to scale global marketing efforts efficiently by automating key processes, interacting with ad vendors in real time and leveraging hundreds of terabytes of data and ML algorithms for optimization and effective decision making on millions of items in our catalog. The types of systems built by this team range from Java microservices with intuitive React-based UIs running on Kubernetes, to streaming systems processing billions of daily events in real time and large scale batch systems.
What You'll Do:
- Lead a high-impact lean, senior software engineering team, managing, mentoring and coaching team members at multiple career levels
- Partner as a thought leader with your product and marketing peers to define the vision for your platform and build the roadmap for your team
- Execute and own all aspects of software development for your team – design, development, testing, deployment, and sustained operation.
- Use depth and breadth of technical expertise to ensure platforms being built are scalable, maintainable and extensible
- Demonstrate strong motivation and drive to improve all aspects of the team and platform - whether it's making process improvements or rearchitecting the platform for the next level of scale and operability
- Model customer obsession for the team, always connecting technical delivery with customer value and business outcomes.
What you'll need:
- B.S. or equivalent experience in computer science/related field
- Working experience in a JVM based environment
- Experience making architectural and design-related decisions for large scale platforms, understanding the tradeoffs between time-to-market vs. flexibility.
- Experience hiring and mentoring junior and senior engineers across levels
- Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal guidance
- Experience building a variety of applications ranging from low latency APIs to large scale batch systems
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders alike
