Zoox is seeking an experienced, action-oriented, and hands-on Manager, Tooling Engineering to lead a team of tooling engineers responsible for ensuring the tooling (forming dies, injection molds, casting molds, etc) used to build our vehicle fleet are cost effective, high quality, and developed within sufficient lead time. 

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and grow a team of tooling engineers responsible for the following:
  • Validating the design and manufacturing methods of tooling
  • Identifying and managing preferred tooling vendors
  • Supporting the procurement of tooling required for new product development parts
  • Developing bottoms-up, should-cost models for tooling and evaluating supplier tooling quotes 
  • Identifying, justifying, and implementing cost reduction projects to reduce cost of vehicle components
  • Collaborating with Design Engineers, Process Engineers, and Quality Engineers to develop and improve product designs for robust components
  • Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience involving specification, design, procurement, and qualification of tooling
  • 3+ years of experience managing a tooling engineering team
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, including C-level, engineering, legal, finance, manufacturing, and logistics
  • Demonstrated experience in achieving results in the areas of responsibility described above
  • Experience collaborating with supply management, product design, industrial design, and manufacturing groups
  • Manage tool design, fabrication, process development, and qualification onsite at various Tier 1 suppliers
  • Ability to perform cost analysis
  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficient in the use of CAD (SolidWorks)
  • Proficient with the use of Design for Manufacturing, SPC, DOE and Six Sigma techniques
  • Experience in managing complex development programs with overseas tooling vendors
  • Ability to work autonomously, with little direction
  • Compensation
    There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $151,000 to $250,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
