Position Summary

The Director, Digital Business Partnership – PBUs & FLs serves as the strategic digital interface between assigned Pioneering Business Units (PBUs) and Flagship Labs companies (FLs) and the broader Digital & IT organization. This role supports companies from their ProtoCo launch through to NewCo scaling and Operational GrowthCo transitions. Operating within Flagship’s Business Partnership model, the Director is responsible for aligning digital strategy to business maturity, overseeing digital intake and prioritization, and coordinating execution readiness across matrixed IT delivery functions. This role ensures that each company’s digital foundation is appropriately established and evolved in a way that enables scientific, operational, and partnership success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support business leaders in translating scientific and operational strategies into aligned digital priorities.
  • Sponsor the digital roadmap for each assigned company and represent digital priorities in Flagship governance forums.
  • Ensure platform and infrastructure needs are met to support milestones such as funding events, BD engagement, etc...
  • Support the adoption and application of Digital Launch and Operational Growth Transition (OGT) playbooks in collaboration with IT delivery functions and the Office of the CIO.

Intake & Prioritization

  • Lead intake and validation of digital requests across assigned companies; ensure alignment with enterprise platform strategy and standards.
  • Collaborate with PMs, analysts, and delivery leaders to ensure scoping is supported by context, value, and timing.
  • Sponsor business case development and ensure each initiative is prioritized through related governance forums.
  • Track intake and roadmap status across companies using shared tools in collaboration with the Office of the CIO.
  • Guide digital investment discussions with business leaders and coordinate Build budget inputs.

Delivery Coordination & Governance

  • Serve as a strategic liaison to IT delivery leads across Research Systems, Enterprise Applications, Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity.
  • Ensure business needs are accurately reflected during project planning; hand off scoped initiatives to delivery teams for execution.
  • Partner with IT delivery functions to support requirement gathering, testing coordination, and system validation readiness.
  • Participate in project milestone and governance reviews as a business-aligned sponsor, but not as a delivery manager.
  • Raise delivery risks, blockers, and coordination challenges to the Office of the CIO as needed to maintain portfolio alignment.

Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of experience in digital strategy, IT business partnership, or life sciences systems implementation.
  • Experience supporting early-stage and growth-stage biotech companies, ideally within platform-based or portfolio models.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally across science, operations, and IT to define and prioritize digital initiatives.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, lab IT systems (e.g., Benchling, LIMS), collaboration platforms (e.g., M365), and cyber standards.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges associated with scaling IT capabilities across maturing biotech organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent partnerships, prioritize across a portfolio, and influence without direct authority.
