The Role:

Generate is seeking an experienced and innovative Head of Clinical Development to join our growing team.  This person will create, build and lead a top tier clinical team covering all aspects of our clinical development capability. This will include the clinical strategy, protocol design, protocol execution and data analysis. Given Generate’s origins and capabilities around artificial intelligence and machine learning, the goal will be to develop a next generation clinical organization that fuses the best of traditional approaches with the best advances that digital technologies have to offer - large data set from all sources and modern computational techniques and automation.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in early clinical development.  They will be expected to work closely with our machine-learning and data scientists to take maximum advantage of the new techniques.  This is a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of therapies at scale while pioneering a better way doing this kind of clinical science. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and elaborate, with the support of the CSO, CTO and R&D leadership team, a differentiated approach to clinical development,
  • Forge a team from disparate backgrounds and with different skills (clinical trial design, disease expertise, trial execution, pharmacovigilance, biostatistics) into a highly effective group pursuing this approach.
  • Advance the clinical pipeline of the company while shaping the overall portfolio.
  • Hire and develop employees within the team.  Assign work, provide feedback and coaching, shifting priorities and resources as needed
  • Participate and drive the overall portfolio decision making for the company
  • Communicate progress regularly to CSO and broader Leadership Team
  • Build and maintain good relationships with the other relevant teams at Generate (e.g., Protein Sciences, Preclinical Discovery and Development, Process Development)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the clinical communities related to our scientific work 
  • Help to lead the alliance management around our partnered programs – both the ones we develop ourselves and those that the partners lead
  • Create and maintain a rigorous clinical and scientific culture

Required Skills/Experience:

  • MD and or PhD in Clinical Science
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in clinical development
  • Experience with trial design, execution and analysis
  • Evidence of creativity in addressing challenging clinical science problems
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with proven ability to create and grow high performing clinical science teams
  • Display excellent communication and collaboration skills
