Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated leader to drive strategy and provide leadership for the Pioneering Medicines Modeling and Simulation (M&S) function. The qualified candidate will apply knowledge and technical expertise to characterize systems biology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics-related aspects facilitating research efforts across a diverse portfolio of diseases and therapeutic approaches. We are looking for individuals who are analytical, goal-oriented, and committed to maintaining the highest scientific and ethical standards. Strong communication skills and comfort working in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment are highly desirable.

This role will be based at our Cambridge, MA location. We have a hybrid model and onsite presence 3 times per week is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive modeling and simulation-based efforts for Pioneering Medicine programs from discovery to early development
  • Facilitate early research efforts by building systems biology-based mechanistic disease and therapeutic intervention models.
  • Explore the effects on target and pathway to understand the requirements for efficacy and set a candidate drug target profile.
  • Develop and validate preclinical PK/PD/Biomarker/Efficacy models to elucidate quantitative PK/PD relationships.
  • -Utilize preclinical ADME, pharmacology, and pharmacodynamic data to develop predictions for human efficacious dose.
  • Build and lead research-oriented M&S strategies from target engagement to disease-level quantitative systems pharmacology models.
  • Identify opportunities where model-informed drug development can advance the understanding of biology, pharmacological activity, and safety.
  • Ensure that supporting infrastructure (software, methods, consulting support, etc.) meets all expectations.
  • Engage in strategic communication with Pioneering Medicine leaders, cross-functional leadership, and external stakeholders to facilitate M&S-related governance decisions.
  • Develop the Modeling and Simulation function within the Pioneering Medicine team.
  • Define, monitor, and manage short-term and long-term budgets.
  • Supervise, develop and mentor scientists within and outside of the M&S function.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. with 10+ years of experience in pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical sciences, or other related disciplines
  • Strong background in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies related to systems biology, pharmacokinetics, and PK/PD
  • Experience supporting drug discovery programs based on standard therapeutic modalities (small molecules, antibodies, and/or peptides)
  • Working knowledge of gene-based therapy approaches (gene regulation, RNA medicine, gene therapy) is desirable
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., R, Python)
  • Hands-on modeling experience using Phoenix Winnonlin, Gastroplus, and/or similar software packages
  • Experience managing direct reports is a plus
