Position:

The Protein Engineering team is establishing high-throughput screening workflows to both generate internal datasets of sequence-function relationships for Generate’s machine learning models and to optimize lead molecules for therapeutic development. We are seeking a motivated and talented Scientist/Sr Scientist to play a key role in implementing novel screening technologies and executing on pipeline projects to drive progress of Generate’s therapeutic candidates. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from the Computational Biology, Protein Sciences, and Preclinical Discovery and Development teams to advance scientific programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform DNA cloning and library construction
  • Execute yeast display selections and NGS to characterize libraries of protein variants
  • Collaborate with Computational Biology team to analyze and interpret NGS results
  • Lead program discovery and optimization efforts, working closely with Protein Sciences and Medicines teams to design and optimize therapeutic candidates with desired biological functions and developability profiles
  • Develop additional high-throughput screening technologies

Basic qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, bioengineering, or related field; B.S./M.S. with 8+ years relevant industry experience 
  • Expertise in protein engineering techniques such as library design and construction, mutagenesis, phage or yeast display
  • Demonstrated ability for platform and technology development
  • Knowledge of protein characterization techniques (flow cytometry, ELISA, SPR, BLI)
  • Familiarity with structural analysis tools such as PYMOL and basic scripting for data analysis beneficial
  • Prior experience with laboratory automation preferred
  • Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and strong communication skills
