Lyft’s Bikes & Scooters team is developing the future of micro-mobility and we are looking for a Firmware Engineering Manager to come in and drive the development of our newest vehicles.  Our engineers are smart, flexible, and love solving difficult challenges. They look to their managers for organizational transparency, career development, mentorship, and honest feedback. They move fast and ship code to production continuously, relying on their leadership to increase productivity by removing obstacles and keeping processes lean. Our engineering managers are people with varying technical backgrounds and interests -- some are involved in the technical details of their team and others provide general technical direction and oversight. Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members; help develop their careers, and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals
  • Write design specifications and participate in hardware and software design reviews
  • Understand and deal well with rapid development cycles; remain flexible and calm in the face of uncertainty
  • Prioritize and lead projects from end to end
  • Work across engineering to build relationships with other teams. Use their feedback and understand their goals to build and prioritize a roadmap for your team
  • Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
  • Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members

Experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and leadership skills; ability to inspire team members
  • Technical knowledge of firmware and embedded systems, especially focused on consumer products
  • Knowledge of RTOS and Linux embedded system challenges. Support early definition and drive closure of architecture and technical opens
  • Strong background in object oriented design, prioritizing testability, and reusability
  • Experience working closely with sensors and actuators
  • Knowledge of software architecture for microcontrollers and SOC (system on chip)
  • Experience with build schedules, identify critical paths, and maintain throughout execution
  • Experience as a technical leader for two or more years
  • Experience leading engineers at all levels, and skilled at guiding them through their career development. Motivate and instill a strong sense of ownership in your team
  • Help to instill and foster embedded engineering best practices
