Lyft is hiring an experienced, talented and energetic commercial attorney to join our expanding Autonomous Vehicle (“AV”) Legal team.  You will work hand in hand with our Autonomous Vehicle teams as they develop the future of transportation. In this role, you will be a thought leader within the company, and partner with our AV Business Development team to negotiate and draft a variety of deals and partnerships of strategic importance.  The role reports to the Director of Legal for Autonomous Vehicles, and involves splitting time between Lyft’s San Francisco headquarters and Lyft’s Level 5 Engineering Center in Palo Alto

This is a fast-paced environment ideally suited for an organized and motivated individual who enjoys building capabilities.   

Responsibilities:

  • Advise Lyft’s AV Business Development team on strategic partnerships and draft associated agreements
  • Assist various stakeholders as issues related to contracts and business relationships arise
  • Collaborate closely with others in Legal to provide holistic advice to our AV teams and and drive cross-functional resolution of issues
  • When needed, support the Procurement and/or Commercial Law team on AV-related supply transactions
  • Although prior experience with product counseling is not required, the applicant should be willing to learn how to provide actionable product counseling and be willing to do so on a variety of issues, when needed

Experience:

  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state is required
  • 7+ years of relevant experience, in a law firm, government, or in-house setting, with some in-house experience strongly preferred
  • Strong track record of drafting contracts and conducting commercial negotiations in either partnership, supply, or M&A contexts
  • Experience with automotive or AV commercial transactions would be ideal, though not required
  • Experience working closely with business and product teams, ideally from technology or automotive companies
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to convey complex ideas succinctly and with clarity
  • Ability to think quickly on your feet, convey grace under pressure, and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands and shifting priorities
  • Ability to operate independently while being a team player who brings a positive attitude to the workplace
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, rapidly-evolving workplace, and a willingness to learn additional areas of law, including those related to automotive and AV industries
  • Good sense of humor
