Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We are looking for a Staff level software engineer for release and reliability initiative for Aurora Services Engineering organization to play a critical role in improving the release process and reliability of our services and applications.
The Aurora Services Engineering team creates services and web applications that enable commercial operation of autonomous vehicle fleets at scale. Our mission is to build the software that will be used daily by human operators to coordinate the business side of our platform - evaluating route feasibility, assigning work to autonomous vehicles, and managing a fleet of vehicles. As Aurora prepares to massively scale its fleet and integrate with partners on an API level, the tools we build will be critical to the efficient daily operation of our business.
In this role, you will
- Will be joining an impactful team in the Aurora Services organization to help improve the offboard release process tooling and reliability of the platform and critical services.
- Collaborate with development teams on release procedures, with test-ops on weekly engineering release testing, and with infrastructure teams to automate release processes.
- Design and implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions, standardize log metrics and tracing for all ASE services
- Create and maintain end-2-end tests with an operations focus to improve product reliability and suggest and deploy reusable frameworks for API performance, chaos testing, and more
- Work with your teammates to establish new technologies and approaches to onboard and backend development as our stack matures.
- Collaborate with product and other tech leads to help create a roadmap for release and reliability for Aurora Services.
- Contribute to and evolve our team culture around mentorship, feedback, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Phenomenal communication skills. We build software for people. We build software with people. You know how to write an effective technical spec, provide feedback to others, translate technical concepts into lay terms, and incorporate feedback into your efforts. You value and practice openness, empathy, kindness, and collaboration.
- A preference for action. You will use good judgment to balance speed and quality. You will deliver products that are built in a responsible and sustainable way. You will use a self-starter mentality to thrive in a growing environment where all hands are on deck, and consider no obstacle too big or too small. You will notice where there is a need and will hustle to fill it.
- The drive to make teams stronger. You're excited to work hard and fast to the finish line on new opportunities with a collaborative and integrated team. You will be proactive in engaging conflict with openness, patience and kindness in an environment where it is safe to lean on each other and learn from failures.
- Experience working on large scale applications with proven track record of improving the reliability
- Experience leading projects and initiatives and drive them to closure.
- Experience with building observability and familiarity with open telemetry, prometheus
- Experience building e2e testing frameworks for web services
- Experience with modern pipeline (ci/cd) building tools like buildkite.
- A Bachelor’s/Masters Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 10+ or more years of industry experience
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience of modern infrastructure tooling like kubernetes, terraform.
- Experience build backend services using modern object oriented languages like Golang
- Deep understanding of large scale systems with emphasis on reliability.
