Position Summary:
We are seeking a Research Scientist in the In Vivo Pharmacology group who will be responsible for independently developing and performing studies with animal models in autoimmunity, metabolism and oncology. This individual will collaborate with in vitro biology, translational science and nonclinical groups to help execute on company strategy.
Flagship's 3rd party agency will be hiring for this position for a 1 year contract. Contractors under this position with be working at Pioneering Medicines with the potential to convert to a full-time employee based on performance and other criteria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directly execute and support the in-life screening, characterization, and mechanism of action studies for drug candidates of various modalities, including small molecules, biologics and nucleic acids.
- Draft in vivo study designs to support multifunctional needs.
- Generate high quality data using in vivo models of autoimmunity, metabolism and oncology.
- Monitor animal health, accurately record data and comply with IACUC regulations in regard to animal welfare and care.
- Help develop ex vivo assays in conjunction with translational science to determine relevant pharmacodynamic biomarkers and mechanism of action of targets/programs within PM.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the larger in vivo group, in vitro biology, and translational teams to support PM’s daily operations in both the vivarium and the main laboratory.
Basic Requirements:
- BSc or advanced degree in Biology or related disciplines with 7+ years of experience in animal handling within a research setting.
- Expertise in multiple forms of substance administration (e.g., PO, IP, IV, SC).
- Experience in necropsy, blood and tissue collection and processing ( e.g. proficient in submandibular and cardiac collections).
- Demonstrated ability to execute various in vitro and ex vivo assays (e.g., cell culture, ELISA, Flow cytometry).
- Proficient in scientific software (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism).
- Ability to analyze scientific data and clearly communicate summarized data to internal PM team members and stakeholders.
- Accurately record detailed documentation of experimental results via ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook).
- Ability to operate as part of a team, flexibility to work on needed weekends, and work with colleagues across the organization to advance projects at all stages.
Additional Qualifications:

- Research background in immunology, metabolism or oncology in an industry or academic setting preferred.
- Prior experience in drafting animal use protocols.
- Previous experience with animal models of metabolism, autoimmunity and oncology preferred.
- Hands-on experience with flow cytometry is a plus.
